Our Story

How did we start?

Concert for a Cause: Music Therapy began as Caroline Buckner's Girl Scout Gold Award Take Action Project in 2014. She worked with contacts at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta, and local businesses in the Metro Atlanta area to hold the first charity concert for Concert for a Cause in June of 2015. Today, Concert for a Cause is still under the leadership of Caroline Buckner and is now an officially recognized 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. In addition to our annual summer concert as well as smaller fundraisers and events year round to continue our support of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta as well as many other music therapy practices in metro Atlanta.  We have local, national and international sponsors as well as volunteers in the community that assist us with the success of these events.

Where exactly does the money go?

All profits earned from any of our events and fundraisers goes to music therapy services at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and various other metro Atlanta music therapy practices. With the funds we provide, the facilities are able to buy new resources and expand their services to their patients. Funds from past concerts have provided: mounted Bluetooth CD players in patient room on the Critical Intensive Rehabilitation Unit at Scottish Rite along with iTunes gift cards, headphones to over 50 patients, and “take-home music therapy bags” which include information on music therapy exercises for home-use and small instruments for children to take home.

What is Music Therapy? Why should I support it?

The American Music Therapy Association defines music therapy as:
”…the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program.”

Music Therapy is designed to meet any client or patient where they are to achieve goals in a fun, non-threatening environment facilitated by music. Music therapy interventions can be designed to:

  • Promote Wellness

  • Manage Stress

  • Alleviate Pain

  • Express Feelings

  • Enhance Memory

  • Improve Communication

  • Promote Physical Rehabilitation

At Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Music Therapy means helping a child and their family through their toughest times. When you attend our events, donate to our fundraisers, or purchase items from our Amazon wish list, you are helping to provide the healing power of a music to a child in need.
